Join us at the Lincoln Center Atrium to celebrate a new partnership between three NYC nonprofit organizations focused on empowering and inspiring people in vulnerable communities through the use of the drum.
The drum possesses a special connection to the human heartbeat and the rhythms of the universe and has been employed since time immemorial for raising spirits, communication and creating a joyful community.
In this spirit, a new partnership has formed between Continuum Culture & Arts, Boundless Progress and Arts and Education Continuum. This evening, Andrew Drury, a composer and performer who has long embraced supporting marginalized communities, will present a special concert by The Forrest.
The Forest is a new, cooperative percussion group comprised of five composer/percussionists who work in deep dialogue with African-Diasporic musics from Jazz to Hip Hop, New Music, free improvisation, and more.
Featuring Gustavo Aguilar, Leah Bowden, Andrew Drury, Lesley Mok and Michael Wimberly, the group is inspired by a spirit of exploration, and the percussion extravaganzas of Sun Ra and the Art Ensemble of Chicago.
